Stranahan Cline & Bombatch is a law firm serving Western Pennsylvania— handling various legal issues and cases for businesses and individuals.
It is our goal to help you with whatever legal issue you might have in a timely, cost-effective and result-oriented manner.
Our History
Our law firm has been in continuous existence in Mercer, PA since 1864—which is one of the longest tenures of any firm in Western Pennsylvania. Our firm is not going anywhere soon either, as we purchased the McBride & McBride law firm located in Grove City in 2020. The McBride firm had been around since 1901.
The Stranahans began their legal legacy with James A. Stranahan (1839-1924), James A. Stranahan II (1880-1964) and James A. Stranahan Ill (1919-2003)- a much respected litigator and highly decorated WW II veteran, through the current Senior Partner James A. Stranahan IV. The Stranahan name has been synonymous with effective legal representation and integrity throughout the decades.
Jack W. Cline has been a partner in the firm since 1993. He has earned a lifetime achievement award for his accomplishments— an award given to only 0.5% of practicing lawyers.
Attorney Greg Metrick is an associate in the firm with 17 years of experience at Stranahan, Stranahan & Cline. Attorney Doug Watson has been of counsel to the firm since 2020 and handles all real estate matters.
After working for nearly a decade at a national law firm, Attorney Zachary Bombatch opened his solo practice in 2023 headquartered in Grove City. He joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2024 and became a named partner in 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’m guilty, do I need an attorney?
Absolutely. You may be guilty of something, but you are probably not guilty of every charge filed against you. Almost every case is “overcharged” by the police. Just as importantly, we act on your behalf to assure that the punishment is on scale with the offense committed.
Can you get my charges expunged?
Yes, for every charge that we receive a dismissal or a not guilty verdict, we can obtain an expungement of your record.
If I get an expungement, what do I say on a job application as to whether or not I have ever been arrested?
No. The expungement erases all evidence of the arrest, as to the offense expunged.
Should I transfer my home into my childrens’ name?
This is a major step requiring a legal consultation but the usual answer is NO.
Should I do a trust instead of a will?
This is dependent on many factors, but the usual answer is NO.
If my spouse and I agree that I will move out of my marital home, is it considered abandonment?
No
I am unable to purchase a firearm because I was involuntarily committed several years ago. Is there a way to remove this impediment?
Yes
My driver’s license is very important to me, but I’ve just received notice that it is being suspended. Can you help me appeal this action?
If it’s within the required time period, yes.
Will a trust prevent paying inheritance taxes?
No
Does your firm handle real estate matters?
Yes
What if your firm doesn’t handle my type of legal matter?
If we feel your case is in an area of the law that we do not have sufficient expertise in, we will likely be able to recommend a law firm to handle your case.
